A website for an English tutor in Kongsvinger
Grace Soellaart is a native English speaker from Australia who teaches children, teenagers and adults in Kongsvinger and online. We designed and built a site that feels as friendly as her lessons, makes prices and booking obvious, and helps people nearby find her on Google.

The brief
Most visitors arrive on a phone, often in the evening, and decide within seconds whether Grace feels trustworthy, friendly and competent enough to contact.
The site had to reassure both the parents of a nervous ten-year-old and an adult with an IELTS deadline. Success meant one thing: a visitor sends an enquiry.
Design: a café table under an amber lamp
Everything starts from Grace’s own photo: the terracotta wall, the glowing glass lamp, the stained-glass window and the old subway map behind her. The colours are sampled straight from it, and the photo sits in an arched window that lights up as the page loads.
- Her story is a hand-drawn route from Australia to Kongsvinger.
- Prices are perforated transit tickets: one for under-19s, one for adults.
- A word switcher flips between British, American and Australian English – a playful moment that also shows her expertise.
- Self-hosted Young Serif and the Norwegian typeface Schibsted Grotesk, with matched fallbacks so text doesn’t jump while it loads.
Build: fast, accessible and easy to look after
- Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript – no framework and no build step, so there is nothing to keep updated.
- The contact form sends each enquiry through a Cloudflare Worker and Brevo, with a honeypot, a timing check and rate limiting against spam.
- Keyboard-friendly tabs and menu, visible focus states, and every animation respects reduced-motion settings.
- Responsive images, and work further down the page waits until it’s needed, so phones stay quick.
Local SEO: easy to find nearby
A tutor depends on local search, so the site was built for Google from day one.
- Structured data for the business, its prices, its logo and its Google Business Profile.
- Focused pages for IELTS preparation, homework help and adult learners, plus an English version.
- A Google Business Profile linked to the site, and a one-click way for students to leave a review.
- Clean URLs, a sitemap, canonical tags and mobile-friendly pages.
